I saw H&M many times in theaters during the 70s and 80s, and rarely heard this dialogue in its entirety because this is right where the reels change. A few of these lines would always be chopped out.

All intact on video, I'm sure.

yeah, first posts in ages. Greets to all H&M fans!

Maude: I should like to change into a sunflower most of all. They're so tall and simple. What flower would you like to be?
Harold: I don't know. One of these, maybe.
Maude: Why do you say that?
Harold: Because they're all alike.
Maude: Oooh, but they're *not*. Look. See, some are smaller, some are fatter, some grow to the left, some to the right, some even have lost some petals. All *kinds* of observable differences. You see, Harold, I feel that much of the world's sorrow comes from people who are *this*,
[she points to a daisy]
Maude: yet allow themselves be treated as *that*
[she gestures to a field of daisies]

yeah! this tribe is alive!

Let's go to a funeral, replant trees and drink some oat straw tea (don't worry...it's organic)

I first saw H&M back in high school (1988), and fell in love with it from the first viewing. I own it on DVD now and watch it at least once a year. It moves me! I love showing it to people who haven't seen it before.

Me too, I loved this movie when it came out and I recently watched it again when I showed it to a friend who had never seen it.

I had not seen it in over 20 years and I realized how much this movie shaped my viewpoints and attitudes.

Hi everyone!

Just had to share the warmfuzzy at having my fellow H&M afficianados :-). When in doubt about what to do with at a crossroads in life, I think of Maude and it helps.

Cheers!

Yeah, the coolest thing is to see it in a theater filled with other H&M fans, everyone waiting breathless for the big moments to laugh. The best thing is to bring a first-timer with you so you can also relive the first time through their eyes, when everything was a surprise.

Who said that? Well, I guess I did.
